Welcome to the 19th Annual Rocketman Triathlon!

The Rocketman Triathlon is a USAT Sanctioned Olympic Distance Triathlon put on by the Team Rocket Tri-Club. 2012 marks the 19th year for the Rocketman Triathlon in memory of John Masterson.  The event takes place at 7:30 am on Sunday, August 26, 2012, at the Carroll D. Hudson Recreation Area on Redstone Arsenal.

This race benefits the USMCR Toys for Tots Program. All participants and spectators are URGED to bring a new toy to the race. Toys can be turned in at packet pickup. 

The Rocketman Triathlon is the 3rd event  in the Alabama Championship Series which also includes:

May 19, 2012 – Lake Guntersville Olympic Distance Triathlon. Guntersville, AL
June 23, 2012 – Heel and Crank Duathlon. Huntsville, AL
October 7, 2012 – Goosepond Island Half Distance Triathlon. Scottsboro, AL
The race is limited to 500 competitors.  Due to military security considerations, all online entries must be received by August 19, 2012.

Cut-Off Times: All participants must complete the event in under 4 hour 30 minutes. The swim must be completed in no more than 1 hour from the time the participant started. The bike must be completed in no more than 3 hours from the time the participant started. Event officials reserve the right to pull a participant off the course if it appears as though that participant will not be able to meet the above time requirements.

Cancellation Policy: You may cancel and receive a full refund for your registration fee. To receive a refund, notify the Race Director no later than August 19, 2012.

Course Description

Swim:  The swim takes place in the Tennessee River. Swimmers will enter the water in a time trial format one at a time with a 3-5 second interval. Swimmers will be seeded based upon the estimated swim time you provided during registration (yes, you can edit your swim time before the race by clicking the "Edit Registration" link on the top of this page).

 

Transition:  Please note the flow through the transition area.

 

 

 

Bike:  40 kilometers The bike course has a couple of rolling hills, but is primarily flat and fast. There is no water on the bike course. It is recommended that you carry two bottles on the bicycle.

 

Run:  10-km course. The run course takes place on a combination of asphalt roads, gravel roads, and smooth gravel trail. The run will be challenging due to heat and several gradual hills. Please stay hydrated!!!

Directions

Due to increased security on Redstone Arsenal from the events of September 11 you are reminded that all adults must have picture ID with them while entering. Also, all cars entering must have vehicle registration and proof of current automobile insurance. Weapons to include knives, guns, etc. are NOT ALLOWED on base. All vehicles are subject to be searched.

Gate 1 From Memorial Parkway (US 231/431); go west on Martin Rd. to Gate 1. From Gate 1, go 1.6 miles to Patton Rd. Go south on Patton Rd for 4.5 miles to Rayford Rd. Turn left onto Rayford Rd and continue east for 0.8 miles as it will take you straight to Col Hudson Recreation Area.

Gate 9 (Research Park Blvd/Rideout Road); As you enter Gate 9, Research Park Blvd becomes Rideout Rd. Take Rideout Rd south for approximately 3.2 miles to the traffic signal at Martin Rd. Turn left on Martin Rd going east for 2.3 miles to Patton Rd. Turn right on Patton Rd going south for 4.5 miles to Rayford Rd. Turn left onto Rayford Rd and continue east for 0.8 mile as it will take you straight to the Col Hudson Recreation Area.

 

Lodging

The Westin at Bridge Street Town Centre is the Host Hotel for the Rocketman.

They have 30 rooms reserved for a rate of $114 (15 rooms have a King and 15 rooms have 2 double beds).  Reservations must be made by 5 pm August 4, 2012.  Location is very convenient, as the Expo/Packet Pick-Up will be at the Monaco Theater right beside the Hotel and less than a mile from Gate 9.
